Permission to Play: Camps Are Kinda Our Thing

Permission to Play: Camps Are Kinda Our Thing

Camps are kinda our thing. Dive into our immersive creative process for Camp Eagle, where we blended faith, adventure, and UX to build a website that converts.

When your staff is made up of a bunch of people who are kids at heart and you tell them their newest client is a summer camp tucked away on hundreds of raw, beautiful acres of Texas Hill Country, let’s just say… the excitement is contagious.

Camp Eagle isn't just another summer camp in Texas. You could say the location alone has everything going for it — nestled up against the cool, spring-fed Nueces River that winds through its property, the natural limestone cliff faces to rappel and wonder at, the acres of Hill Country terrain to explore — but there's more to Camp Eagle than a stunning backdrop.

 And stunning is an understatement!

At its core, Camp Eagle exists for one thing: kids encountering Christ and leaving changed forever because of it. Their heart for Jesus plus kids is absolutely contagious and let’s be honest: that’s the kind of thing we want to catch at camp.

What wasn’t keeping up? Their website. Clunky, outdated, and missing the very story it needed to tell — parents were landing on the site and losing their way almost immediately. Camp Eagle reached out to us for help in creating a new web site that accurately told their story and ultimately got more kids to summer camp.

Before We Created Anything, We Showed Up to Camp.

With bags in hand, the Ardent Creative crew showed up for a two-day immersive adventure to do what we do best: get inside the story. We interviewed program directors for a peek behind the curtain, saw the beauty of the camp firsthand, and imagined what it would be like to be the lucky kids who enjoyed a week (or two) at this glorious place.

What we found inspired everything. Including this line that would set the tone for the entire site:

Everything else had to live up to that.

We Got to Work and Here’s What We Did.

Designing a Journey, Not Just a Website

A parent landing on the Camp Eagle site for the first time has one question: is this the right place for my kid? Our job was to answer that question before they even had to ask it.

We built the UX around how a parent actually thinks. The summer camp experience is organized by grade: Headwaters for grades 1-5, River's Edge for grades 6-8, and Eagle Quest for grades 9-12 so a parent can find exactly where their child belongs in seconds. No digging and no clicking around.

Just a clear, confident path forward that ends in one place: registration.

The Land Is the Story

Most adventure camps manufacture their thrills. Camp Eagle doesn't have to.

You swim in a real spring-fed river. You climb and explore real limestone cliffs. The terrain is natural, the trails are untamed, and the wide open Hill Country sky goes on forever. All of it is exactly how God made it. This place is secluded and removed from the noise of everyday distractions. On purpose.

It's far enough from everything for you to get closer to God.

We wanted to make sure the website felt that way too. The art direction, the copy, the design — all of it had to carry the weight of a place that doesn't have to try hard.

Our job was just to get out of the way and let the land do what it already does: draw people closer.

But Jesus is the Hero.

While the land is beautiful, it’s just one part of the story. Here's what makes Camp Eagle different from every other summer camp in Texas: faith isn't a program that’s just bolted on like an afterthought with some Jesus campfire songs. The love of Jesus is woven into the relationships of everyone you encounter at Camp Eagle. It's woven into the specifically orchestrated immersive and hands-on activities, and the Scripture they are challenged to live out. A kid rappelling down a real limestone cliff with buddies isn't just having fun; they're learning what it feels like to step out in faith the way Jesus intends. It’s learning to live and love others as God intends.

That's the Camp Eagle difference, and we made sure the website said so out loud.

Christ Centered. Relationship Rooted. Adventure Fueled.

That's not just a tagline: it's the architecture of the entire site. And front and center, where no parent could miss it: the story of seven summers that change everything. Camp Eagle's 7-year Bible curriculum takes kids deeper in Scripture every single summer, from elementary school through high school. It's one of the most compelling things about this camp, and it deserved to be treated that way.

Some Projects Just Feel Like a Win Before They're Even Done.

Camp Eagle is one of those clients. When the mission is this clear, the place is this beautiful, and the people behind it love Jesus and kids this much — showing up to do good work isn't hard. It's an honor.

We built them a website worthy of what happens on those acres. And we can't wait to see how many kids end up at camp because of it.
