How to Rise Above Your Competitors In the Digital World

Table of Contents

At this point, you’ve probably heard countless times that we’ve entered the digital era. In a world where being an influencer is now a career path anyone can take, maybe you’re wondering how to make your presence known in a market that is becoming quite oversaturated. Whether you are looking to grow your business’s YouTube channel or you want to increase your engagement on Instagram, we have plenty of tips on how you can expand your reach so that you can compete with some of the top content creators.

Consistency Is Key

With the demands that come with our daily lives, it may seem difficult to make posting regularly a priority. But we promise it’s worth the hassle. Take podcasts, for example, 90% of people that start a podcast don’t get past making the third episode. That’s 1.8 million who quit. Of the 200 thousand left, 90% quit after 20 episodes. That’s 180 thousand gone. To be in the top 1%, you only need to publish 21 episodes. See, it’s easier than you think to make it to the top.

No matter what social medium you want to expand your platform on, consistency is the ticket to success. But, how do you develop a content strategy that includes adding new content on a regular basis? How do you know when to post or why the timing matters? Below, we’ll break down posting strategies for various platforms that you likely already use that will increase engagement for your business.

Instagram

Instagram gets 2.9 billion visits monthly, and 81 percent of these users go there to research services and products, meaning there is an abundance of opportunities for businesses to reach the right audience and maximize their sales opportunities.

To take advantage of these opportunities, It is generally recommended to post once per day or at a minimum 4-5 times per week. If you want to increase your engagement with these posts, it is essential to optimize your posting time. To determine the best posting time for your business account, you need to track your audience’s behaviors. Their interaction with your content in the past will give you an insight into what your followers prefer.

There are three things you can do to find data on your audience’s activity on Instagram:

1. Manually Track Your Instagram's Active Engagement Time

This method can be slightly tedious, but it is effective. Take note of the amounts of likes and comments you’ve received on your posts as well as the time the post was made. Organize this information into an Excel spreadsheet to track what times you’ve received the most engagements and adjust your posting schedule accordingly.

2. Utilize the Instagram Insight Tool

The Instagram Insight tool is by far the most beneficial tool Instagram has to offer. It automatically tracks your engagement and provides you with an analysis for each post you make.

3. Use a Third-Party Instagram Analytics Tool

In our opinion, third-party analytics tools are one of the best options to use for tracking your audience engagement. Not only do these tools provide you with data for each post you made, but they run the numbers and decide when the best time to post will be depending on what day of the week it is.

Examples of some of our favorite tools include:

Blogs

When it comes to blogs, while you may think posting frequently is the way to go, you could end up draining your resources. The reality, in this case, is that quality is the most important aspect of engagement. According to Hubspot’s analysis of the quality vs. quantity debate, posting once or twice a week is a good goal to have when it comes to pushing out blog content.

As far as when to post, try to spread posting dates out across the five weekdays to start. Make note of what blog posts reached higher engagements and try to post around that same time each week.

YouTube

Creating a video for YouTube isn’t the easiest task. From storyboarding, developing a script, recording, and finally editing, why would you want to spend hours creating a video that gets little traction?

While pushing out a lot of content on YouTube may come as a challenge at first, trust us, it is worth staying consistent. Why? HubSpot Blog Research revealed that YouTube sees the highest usage among social media platforms by video marketers, more than TikTok and Instagram. Since YouTube is a hotspot for digital marketing, by posting the recommended four to six times a week, you can easily rise above your competition and on top of that, your channel will likely be featured in your subscribers’ feed the vast majority of the time. The best days to post are during the weekend, with Saturday being the best since consumers tend to have the most relaxation time then.

Tips for Creating Engaging Content

Don’t waste your time pushing out content just for the sake of having something to post. It is better to post one high-quality and engaging post per week than four posts that lack substance. Though your content may be high-quality, many other factors can influence whether your audience chooses to engage.

Here are five tips that will help you create engaging content:

1. Know Your Audience

By learning who your target audience is, you will have a better understanding of how you can connect with them emotionally. By doing so, your audience will feel more inclined to engage with your content.

2. Tell A Story

Consumers like to hear stories from brands about how their product helped someone make their life easier. You could even do this by sharing your story on how your business came about. Allow your audience the opportunity to know you or your brand on a personal level.

3. Make it Relevant

No matter what market your business is in, there are always shifts in market trends. It is important to take note of what is popular and what’s not and use that information to your advantage. Don’t be the page that posts a trend from months ago.

4. Create Content With Intent

What’s the point of making content that has no purpose? The goal of having a strong social presence is to increase your audience. The question is: What do you want this audience to take away from your content? Want them to check out your website? Let them know in a call to action. Want to highlight a new product or service? Set specific days aside in your content calendar to highlight these things.

5. Share A Variety of Content

If all you do is promote your business on your page, you are missing out on a huge opportunity to expand your audience. You can still promote your business without being super direct about it. Highlight your employees, tell a joke, share a motivational tip, etc. Humanize your brand. This entices people to make purchases because they feel that they are buying more than just a product or service; they are buying the lifestyle it would allow them to have.

Final Thoughts

Don’t feel discouraged if your content isn’t going viral right away. Remember, connecting to a larger audience takes time and consistency. From bringing in potential customers to new leads, the effort it takes to keep up with your content schedule is more than worth it.
